Facilitated by Linda Wolf
Hosted by Isabel Jordan
What better place than Yelapa, Mexico to be immersed in the generosity, support, and nurturing of a women's circle rooted in the principles and practice of Compassionate Listening and non violent communication. Join Linda Wolf and Isabel Jordan for this rich and nurturing time.
Middle age is a powerfully transitional time. Tribal cultures ritualize it as a death/rebirth experience. Like menopause, it is a process similar to going through adolescence. It can be confusing, tumultuous, and painful, as well as exciting, passionate, and empowering. Clearly it is transformational and full of potential. Who am I? What do I want to do with my life now? How can I express my full self? How do I let go of the issues I still carry from my own teen years and younger? How do I give my gifts into the world? These are some of the questions we face as women today.
What a blessing to come together in circle as mid-wives for each other in such a safe and pleasurable place as Yelapa, Mexico. Through creating a sacred space, our intimate circle will hold us as we let go of self-criticisms, old conflicts, and issues that hold us back from our emerging Selves. We'll face and share some of our self-judgments, see how we project them on to others, and support each other to let them go and be here, now. Thus, freeing us in the process to experience greater health, creativity, joy, inspiration, and positive, sustainable, long-lasting relationships. We'll look at the "gifts" inherent in personal conflicts, and set in motion ways of being that contribute to creating cultures of peace wherever we are. We'll go beneath our defenses and wound to share our core Selves with each other and understand how being rooted in our hearts is the way.
For 6 days, 7 nights Linda will guide the circle in processes and exercises that have made her weekly Teen Girl Talking Circles so powerful, nurturing, and effective over the past 13 years. Additionally, the circle will provide the container for each of us to share the gifts, strengths, and practices we've learned in the process of doing our own work and personal growth. The rewards of participating as well as sharing in this facilitated, non-hierarchal circle will be very rich.
You don't need to be a Girls Talking Circle Facilitator already to come to this workshop, however through this experience you may want to become one! Certainly, you will come away knowing what contribution it would make. However, if you are currently a facilitator, this experience will add greatly to your skills.
In-between our circle times, we'll enjoy the warm, coastal weather of this tropical paradise; swim, scuba dive, dream, meditate, do yoga, hike, and have the option of going paragliding, horseback riding, having body work, massage, a Huichol Shamanic healing, hang out with the locals, speak Spanish, meet the facilitators and girls of the Yelapa Girls Talking Circle, go to the Saturday night disco and dance, join in music making with local musicians, and basically relax, write, read while being surrounded by a stunningly beautiful ocean, alive with whales and dolphins; varieties of sea birds and butterflies the size of your hands and a night sky with stars that look like someone took a handful of glitter and threw it up in the sky.
As guests of Isabel Jordan, we'll stay in one of her four open palapas individually placed in her tropical garden, overlooking the sea. We'll enjoy complete privacy in our retreat space, Gaia, or we can wander over to the communal main house to get acquainted with neighbors, borrow from a well stocked library, or meet one of the Huichol Indians who frequently arrive, bringing their sacred art to add to Isabel's collection on display here. Add to your bird list from your hammock, swim, snorkel or sea kayak from the small beach below. Isabel has all the snorkel equipment to loan us.
Meals:
Most of our meals will be prepared by a couple local village women, who will work with us to provide us with the freshest, most delicious meals. Vegan, and vegetarian options will be available, also fresh seafood, homemade desserts, handmade tortillas, and homemade Raicilla!
Travel to Yelapa:
Fly in to Puerto Vallarta, which is located on the west coast of Mexico. Once you are in Vallarta, you will catch the boat taxi to Yelapa. If you come in too late to catch the boat, we will help you find accommodations in PV.

Palapas are open-air houses, replete with hanging queen size beds. Each has hot water showers, flush toilets, fully equipped kitchen, towels, bedding, mosquito nets, and hammocks, ice chests or refrigerators, and fire pits with wood supplied. Ice and purified water are also provided. The houses now have electricity, as well as candles and oil lamps for ambiance.
There are pay phones in the village, and an Internet Café, at "The Vortex:" However, "pre-paid calling cards" must be used. These are available at many of the local stores. There is no cell phone coverage.

RECOMMENDATION:
"Last spring was a time for me when the world looked staid, and there seemed little hope of breaking out of the box. I had one specific week I had to get away, and put that week into Google along with the word "retreat". What came up was synchronicity. A group of women from the west coast, it seemed, were gathering for a "compassionate listening circle" in a place called "Yelapa". Where?? What??
Yelapa, it turns out, is a remote fishing village accessed by tiny boats off the coast of Puerta Vallarta, and inhabited by only 1500 native residents. No cars are allowed, only donkeys who carry your provisions, and wild parakeets who carry your dreams. There are
no brick or cement houses, only "Palapas," palm frond roofs on four or more posts with maybe some bamboo walls for privacy and a sleeping loft. In your loft you are rocked to sleep under the stars accompanied by the insistent sound of the sea.
Many of these ten women knew one another, so I could have walked into an intimidating situation. But from our first circle on the very first day, Linda Wolf pulled out her bag of magic. She is a gifted facilitator with a heart as large and colorful as all of Mexico. As each of us shared our stories, why we had come, where we were in our lives, it was quickly apparent that we were making a family. A FUNCTIONAL, safe, loving family.
And the food! Yum! Linda's partner and gourmet chef du jour, Eric, took Yelapa's abundant local fare and transformed it into such happiness for our tummies. I begged him and his inner Julia Child to come home with me, but he insisted he was already previously engaged.
At night, we cranked up the music, hoola hooped, danced, giggled, became twelve again, or dressed to the nines and went on the town. We went to a waterfall in the wilderness and swam naked, we went on field trips and ate meals at the home of locals who warmly invited us in. We explored deep into Yelapa's amazing abundance. We explored deep into the mysteries of ourselves. It was a magical time. How happy I am for synchronicity.
If you find yourself wanting to get away from this world into an indescribably lush and beautiful setting, and doing something
really really unique with a week, treat yourself to one of Linda's retreats. It's the kind of time that will stay with you. One that you can call up from your heart whenever the world feels impossible and all too much to bear."
